You’ll get at least a couple of hours in Whitby. You can trek up the 199 steps to the Abbey, look at the Jet shops, or get some proper fish and chips by the harbour. After that, we head to Robin Hood’s Bay. It’s a steep walk down to the sea, but the old smugglers' pubs and narrow streets are worth the effort. It’s a full day out with no rushing.

On the way back, we go over the Buttertubs Pass—proper high-ground driving with views for miles—and end up in Grassington for a quick brew or a look at the shops. To finish the day on the way home a stop to look around the incredible Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal estate. It’s a lot of ground covered, but we keep it relaxed.

Next is Goathland. It’s where they filmed Heartbeat and Harry Potter. You can see the steam trains at the station (Hogsmeade) and have a walk around (always the option of a train ride!) . We finish the loop via Helmsley, a beautiful market town with an incredible castle and plenty of places for a bit of lunch. It’s a straightforward, scenic run through the best of the Moors.
